Is it possible to do this without using any hardware flasher or something? I'm a total noob at soldering things and i'm afraid that i'll brick my PS3. Visited some so-called service center but they don't know how to downgrade it either.

Hi! I'm new to this forum and the art of modding the PS3 system.
After my PS3 HDMI output died (it can't show 720p or 1080p only 1080i)
I got a new ps3 120gb slim now. And wanted to use the old one for Linux.

I have been searching everywhere to see if it was possible to downgrade and install a CFW without flasher or soldering. I have now realized that it can't be done.

BUT.

I got a PS3 phat CECHKxx, and i got a spare 250gb 2,5" 5600 rpm hard drive.
What if i replaced the ps3 harddrive with the new one and installing the 3,15 firmware on the hard drive prior or after the replacement? or formatted the current hard drive with my computer?
Could that work? Has it been done before?

The current hard drive is a OFW 4.5.

Thanks for any replies
